For those who didn't make the Funeral or the do at the yard.......
Unfortunately I was unable to be at Martin's funeral, however I was told that in excess of a thousand people turned up. How these figures are arrived at I don't know but it doesn't surprise me.
Yesterday the yard was thrown open to all to celebrate Martin's life. There were hundreds there and the weather was perfect. Martins ashes were in a wooden chest set atop a large resin drum and below were his boots. The vicar said some nice words then our founder, Roger Stephens, gave a wonderful homily which was well received by all present. There was a poem and the telling of Martins favourite joke...we all laughed.
Then the Family took to the yard workboat Turmoil and some of Martins ashes were scattered in the Creek. There was singing on the boat as she circled a few times, very moving.
Beer and pasties were available, the only missing ingredient from an amazing afternoon was the man himself.
